STAR Talent Identification Program
STAR Talent Identification Program was launched by the Sports Department to identify
high-potential athletes within the
Meghalaya sports ecosystem.
State Cash Award Scheme
State Cash Award Scheme and the State Sports Scholarship scheme under which nearly
2,000 Athletes and Coaches have received ~ INR. 4.00 Crore.

Indoor halls to facilitate Badminton, Squash, Swimming, Table-Tennis, and Basketball at
P.A. Sangma Sports Complex.
The track and field stadium at Adokgre and the indoor stadium at Sunny Hill, West Garo
Hills are under construction and will be inaugurated soon.
Indoor facility at the J.N. Stadium, Shillong to boast world-class features in line with
the international sport competition protocols.
Williamnagar Stadium for sports like Badminton, Basketball, and Table-Tennis.
Wahiajer Stadium in West Jaintia Hills to host multiple sports like Football and
Athletics.
Indoor Stadium in Jongksha, and the Football/Multisport Stadiums in Ampati to strengthen
the sports ecosystem in the districts.
Over 300 grassroots sports infrastructure projects are presently underway across the
state.
Every District will have a Sports School created by 2025.
1000 Grassroots centers will be established across the State by 2027.
SKILLING AND TRAINING
The J.N.S Stadium Complex in Shillong has been accorded the accreditation of a Centre of
Excellence under the Sports Ministry’s Flagship programme Khelo India. Under the scheme
3 Olympic sports disciplines (Boxing, Athletics, Archery) are slated to be supported
technically and financially with a grant of approximately INR 8.39 crores over a period
of 4 years.
22 educational institutions from 11 districts are in the process of receiving
accreditation of District Khelo India sports training centres which will receive
financial and technical support.
PARTNERSHIPS
Sports Department, through the Department of Tourism, Meghalaya has effectively come
into an MoU with NEUFC, a professional football club in the top tier football league of
the country i.e. the Indian Super League. Further, conversations are underway to create
academies in Meghalaya.
Department entered into an agreement with the Dream Sports Foundation to provide support
to athletes in the form of High-Performance Training and Sports Science intervention.
The Department is also in the process of signing a sister city agreement with a city in
France which would facilitate shared learning and exposure programs for the benefit of
the youth of Meghalaya.
SPORTING EVENTS
Meghalaya is set to host the National Games in 2024.
Meghalaya organized the 2nd North-East Olympic Games in 2022, where 3000 athletes from
across the North Eastern states participated in 18 sporting disciplines in a world-class
event.
The state organized 83rd Senior Table-Tennis National Championships, International
Kayaking Festival, International Sohra Half Marathon and International Paragliding Festival
in 2022.
The Sports Department revived the Meghalaya Games by hosting two editions in 2020-21 and
2021-22, featuring over 3000 athletes from across the state.
